mPEG-CM | Methoxy Polyethylene Glycol Acetic Acid | Sinopeg Linear Monofunctional PEG Derivative September 10,2026.

I. Introduction

mPEG-CM, i.e., Methoxy Polyethylene Glycol Acetic Acid, is a linear monofunctional polyethylene glycol (PEG) derivative. One end of the PEG chain is capped with a methoxy group (-OCH₃), while the other end is connected to a carboxymethyl group (-CH₂COOH), providing further conjugation capability.

mPEG-CM combines the excellent hydrophilicity and biocompatibility of the PEG chain with the reactivity of the carboxyl group (-COOH). It can serve as a PEG linker in bioconjugation, drug delivery, and surface functionalization of nanomaterials.

Basic Information:

English Name Methoxy Polyethylene Glycol Acetic Acid

Abbreviation mPEG-CM

Structural Feature Methoxy-terminated PEG chain + carboxymethyl group (-CH₂COOH)

Functional Group Carboxyl group (-COOH)

II. Structural Features and Functional Properties

1. Linear Monofunctional PEG Structure

mPEG-CM is a typical linear monofunctional PEG derivative. One end of the PEG chain is capped with a methoxy group to maintain its monofunctional characteristics, while the other end carries a carboxyl group for further conjugation with various functional molecules.

The PEG segment exhibits excellent hydrophilicity, which can improve the water solubility and dispersion stability of the modified system, providing spatial flexibility for subsequent functionalization.

2. Carboxyl Group-Based Conjugation

The terminal carboxyl group (-COOH) exhibits good chemical reactivity and can achieve molecular conjugation through various pathways, including:

Reacting with amine-containing molecules in the presence of activating agents to form stable amide bonds;

Reacting with hydroxyl groups (-OH) via esterification to form ester bonds;

Conjugating with proteins, peptides, small molecule drugs, and other amino-containing compounds;

Constructing PEGylated functional molecules and material systems.

Through carboxyl group reactions, mPEG-CM enables the conjugation of PEG chains with biomolecules, functional ligands, and nanomaterials.

3. Functional Role of PEG Chain

The PEG segment can impart the following properties to modified molecules:

Excellent hydrophilicity;

Improved dispersion stability;

Good biocompatibility;

Reduced nonspecific adsorption.

Therefore, mPEG-CM can serve as a PEG linker for biomolecule modification and material functionalization.

III. Major Applications

1. PEGylation of Biomolecules

mPEG-CM can be used for PEGylation of proteins, peptides, and other biomolecules by conjugating the carboxyl group with amino groups on target molecules, thereby improving their water solubility and stability.

2. Drug Delivery Systems

Leveraging the hydrophilicity and biocompatibility of the PEG chain, mPEG-CM can be applied in the construction of nanodelivery systems and drug conjugation systems, providing PEG modification structures for delivery materials.

3. Surface Functionalization of Nanomaterials

mPEG-CM can be used to modify the surfaces of gold nanoparticles, quantum dots, magnetic nanoparticles, and other nanomaterials, improving their dispersibility in aqueous environments and providing carboxyl sites for further conjugation with functional molecules.

4. Bioprobes and Functional Materials

Utilizing the conjugation capability of carboxyl groups with amino compounds, mPEG-CM can be used for preparing fluorescent labeling molecules, biosensing tools, and functionalized materials.
